SCIÉNDO journal promotes open access, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the preservation of academic output. In accordance with these principles, it establishes this self-archiving and repository deposit policy, which authorizes authors to deposit different versions of their work in institutional, subject-specific, academic, or other repositories of their choice, without embargo periods. This policy seeks to enhance the visibility, accessibility, circulation, and legitimate reuse of research findings published in SCIÉNDO, while respecting copyright, licensing conditions, and the integrity of the scholarly record.
This policy applies to research articles, review articles, and other academic contributions published by SCIÉNDO, as well as manuscripts submitted for evaluation, provided that their deposit respects third-party rights and applicable provisions. Authors may deposit their work in the institutional repository of the National University of Trujillo; institutional repositories of other universities and research centers; subject-specific or specialized repositories; open-access academic repositories; personal or institutional academic websites; or other scholarly dissemination platforms that allow the origin and editorial status of the document to be identified.
VERSIONS AUTHORIZED FOR DEPOSIT
1. Submitted version or preprint
This is the original version of the manuscript prepared by the authors and submitted to a journal for evaluation, before incorporating reviewers’ comments and final editing. Authors may deposit this version in institutional, subject-specific, or other repositories of their choice, without an embargo period. Authors are encouraged to inform the journal of the existence of a preprint when submitting the manuscript, providing its persistent link when available. Depositing a preprint does not exempt the manuscript from SCIÉNDO’s editorial evaluation and peer-review procedures.
2. Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM)
This is the version of the work that has passed editorial evaluation and has been accepted for publication, including changes resulting from peer review, but which does not necessarily yet incorporate the journal’s final layout, formatting, or editorial elements. Authors may deposit this version in institutional, subject-specific, or other repositories of their choice, without an embargo period, clearly identifying it as an accepted manuscript and providing the available bibliographic information.
3. Published version or Version of Record (VoR)
This is the definitive version of the article officially published by SCIÉNDO, with its bibliographic information, editorial formatting, and DOI, where applicable. Authors may deposit the published version of the article, including the publisher’s PDF, in institutional, subject-specific, or other repositories of their choice, without an embargo period, in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license and its attribution requirements. Authors are encouraged to preserve the published file without modifications and to include a link to the article’s official page on SCIÉNDO.
4. No embargo period
SCIÉNDO does not impose embargo periods on the deposit of versions authorized under this policy. Authors may deposit submitted, accepted, and published versions as soon as they become available, in accordance with their editorial status and the conditions set out in this document. Deposit in a repository does not replace official publication of the article or alter the dates of submission, acceptance, and publication recorded by the journal.
5. Copyright and publication license
SCIÉNDO publishes its content under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, in accordance with its open-access policy. Authors retain their copyright and may deposit their work in other academic dissemination venues in accordance with this policy and the terms of the applicable license. The CC BY 4.0 license permits sharing and adaptation of the material for any purpose, provided appropriate attribution is given, a link to the license is included, and any changes made are indicated. Authors must ensure that images, tables, photographs, instruments, documents, and other third-party materials included in their work have the necessary permissions or conditions of use for dissemination.
6. Conditions for deposit
When depositing any of the authorized versions, authors are encouraged to clearly identify the version of the document deposited (preprint, accepted manuscript, or published version); include the full title of the work, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, and other available bibliographic information; identify SCIÉNDO journal and the National University of Trujillo as the publishing institution; add the article’s DOI when assigned, together with a link to the official publication; indicate the usage license applicable to the deposited version; avoid presenting a preliminary version as the definitive published version; preserve the integrity of the scientific content; and transparently indicate any modifications made to the document.
7. Institutional deposit at the National University of Trujillo
SCIÉNDO deposits its publications on the National University of Trujillo’s institutional journal platform, based on Open Journal Systems (OJS). This deposit facilitates access to published articles and their dissemination through the institution’s digital infrastructure. Authors may also deposit their work in the UNT institutional repository, in accordance with its technical and administrative procedures, without any additional restrictions beyond those established in this policy. SCIÉNDO’s authorization does not replace the technical requirements of receiving repositories or legal obligations relating to personal data, confidentiality, or third-party rights.
8. Identification and citation of the original publication
To preserve scholarly traceability and avoid confusion between versions, SCIÉNDO recommends that every deposit of a published article include a complete bibliographic reference and a link to the official version.
9. Authors’ responsibilities
Authors are responsible for depositing authentic versions of their work; respecting copyright, licenses, and third-party permissions; correctly identifying the deposited version; providing accurate bibliographic information; acknowledging the original publication in SCIÉNDO; avoiding the dissemination of versions containing confidential information or data whose disclosure has not been authorized; and correcting repository records when significant errors are identified or when the official publication has been subject to a correction or retraction.
10. Access, dissemination, and preservation
SCIÉNDO encourages the circulation of its publications through open access and deposit on academic digital platforms. The journal promotes the long-term accessibility, citability, and retrievability of its articles, in accordance with its digital preservation policies, repository conditions, and applicable licenses. Deposit in additional repositories helps expand the visibility and scholarly impact of research without replacing the journal’s official editorial record.
11. Transparency and policy updates
This policy will be publicly available on SCIÉNDO’s official website and may be consulted by authors, reviewers, editors, institutions, and users. Any amendment will be approved by the competent editorial bodies and published transparently.
