El descubrimiento científico: mecanismos cognitivos

RESUMEN
Con la finalidad de esclarecer algunas características de la creatividad científica, en el presente ensayo se examina los aspectos cognitivos de los autores de cuatro casos de descubrimiento científico de la historia de la ciencia del siglo XX: 1) la teoría sobre la extinción de los dinosaurios de Walter y Luis Álvarez, 2) la teoría sobre la estructura de la molécula del ADN de James Watson y Francis Crick, 3) la teoría bacterial de las úlceras gástricas de Robin Warren y Barry Marshall y, 4) la teoría de la relatividad del espacio, tiempo y movimiento de Albert Einstein. El examen de estos cuatros casos nos ha permitido argumentar por lo siguiente: a) los descubrimientos científicos se ponen de manifiesto en las hipótesis, b) la creatividad mostrada en la construcción de teorías por los Alvarez, Watson y Crick, Marshall y Warren y Einstein fueron principalmente el resultado del ejercicio de pensamiento ordinario, c) el razonamiento lógico no es un factor determinante en la generación de las hipótesis sino que se la utiliza en combinación con el conocimiento científico previo, la imaginación, la intuición, la experiencia sensorial de los autores.
