Este documento presenta una revisión de información, en el que se describe y define la Guía del PMBOK, así como al Project Management Institute (PMI), que es la organización que la promueve. De igual modo, se describe cómo esta guía ha evolucionado con el tiempo desde su quinta a séptima edición. Se rescata también las certificaciones de talla mundial que brinda esta organización, siendo la del PMP®, Profesional en Dirección de Proyectos, la más reconocida. De igual modo, menciona la forma en que esta guía y su certificación se aplica dentro de la gestión de proyectos. Esta revisión tiene el propósito de darle a las personas, organizaciones, empresas y a todos aquellos involucrados en la gestión de proyectos, una herramienta de consulta y referencia que puedan tener en cuenta para cada uno de los proyectos en que se vienen desempeñando.
